HOW CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE? ENCOURAGE YOUR CLIENTS TO GET TESTED

  • Your barbershop is a safe place to talk — about current events, relationships, sex, and health care.
  • Talk with your clients about getting tested for HIV.
  • Anyone having sex without a condom should be tested for HIV at least once, and people who have ongoing exposure to HIV should be tested more frequently.
  • Testing leads to earlier diagnosis and better health outcomes if you test positive.

HIV PREVENTION & TREATMENT

  • Some of your clients may benefit from PrEP.
  • PrEP is “pre-exposure prophylaxis” – it’s medicine that protects people from getting HIV via sexual exposure by 99% when taken every day.
  • Most insurance plans and state Medicaid programs cover the cost of PrEP.
  • If someone tests positive, starting treatment early can keep them healthy.
  • It's easy. Most people can take one pill a day - or two shots every other month.
