Target Audience

This activity is intended for optometrists involved in the care of patients with diabetes. 

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to: 

  • Assess disparities that lead to poor diabetic retinopathy (DR)/diabetic macular edema (DME) outcomes in Black and Hispanic patients with diabetes.  
  • Identify current American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and American Diabetes Association (ADA) screening guidelines and determine underlying drivers for suboptimal screening rates.  
  • Evaluate current and emerging treatments for DR/DME.
