NEW YORK (7/9/2024) – DKBmed announced that two of its social media videos have won awards in the record breaking 45th Annual Telly Awards. The award-winning “Fade Out Diabetes with Tyrik Jackson” video was created for an initiative titled “Fade Out Diabetes: Barber and Clinician Outreach” that addressed the significantly higher rates of diabetes within Black and Hispanic adults through education directed toward barbers, their clients, and health care providers in the Dallas metro area. The pilot program reached 750 clinicians through the live education and more than 100 through the enduring; learners have shown 80% competence gains and 58% knowledge gains. Barber education was delivered to eight barbershops, four of which hosted six screening events with University of Texas Southwestern, screening 132 individuals. Of the individuals screened, 44 (one-third) were found to have T2D or pre-diabetes.

The award winning “Safe Sex and PrEP with Fidel Martinez” video was a collaboration with college-age influencers to create social media videos educating their peers on the importance of STI and HIV prevention, including PrEP, which reached nearly 350,000 individuals, including 5,786 click-throughs. This collaboration was part of an initiative titled “Sex Ed 101: HIV + Mental Health (in College Youth)”. This initiative also created education in the form of an interactive infographic for clinicians seeing college-age students, as well as education for college-age individuals. The program reached more than 1,200 clinicians that showed 142% overall competence gains, 63% gains in confidence in discussing the merits of universal screening, and 76% knowledge gains in overcoming barriers that restrict HIV testing.
