INTENDED LEARNERS
This activity is designed for managed care pharmacists, medical directors, pharmacy directors, pharmacy benefit managers, and other formulary decision-makers involved in the treatment decision-making process for patients with HIV or eligible for PrEP.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Describe benefits of PrEP and examine eligibility criteria.
- Identify barriers to PrEP initiation and maintenance in vulnerable populations (young, black MSM, transgender).
- Assess factors associated with marginalized populations (transgender, elderly) that may complicate treatment or warrant special considerations.
- Evaluate safety and efficacy data for switching virally suppressed patients to medications with lower side effect or drug interaction risk, or those with simpler dosing/administration requirements.
- Discuss the value of treatment regimens that improve adherence and address financial concerns for patients with HIV.
- Discuss strategies for improving medication adherence.
- Discuss the benefits of rapid initiation of ART.
