NEW YORK (5/10/2021) - DKBmed, LLC will utilize a small group learning approach to educate health care providers on ways to improve treatment of osteoarthritis pain. The program, called Gather-ed: Osteoarthritis & Pain - Intensive Training in Osteoarthritis Pain Management, employs a collaborative learning environment for health care providers who treat people with osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis is a major public health challenge, affecting more than 10% of adults in the United States. Effective and safe pain management options are limited, and the current opioid crisis makes finding new, safe pain treatments even more important. Management options for osteoarthritis mostly offer a small benefit and have been unchanged for years. Gather-ed: Osteoarthritis & Pain seeks to change this by educating providers on the role of nerve growth factor (NGF) in osteoarthritis pain and how investigational medications blocking NGF may benefit patients with osteoarthritis.
“The physical changes caused by osteoarthritis lead to significant pain, disability, and consequently, substantial personal, societal, and economic burdens,” said Yvonne D'Arcy, MS, ARNP-C, CNS, FAANP and program director of Gather-ed: Osteoarthritis & Pain. “New medications that safely and effectively manage chronic pain are desperately needed because, currently, treatment for osteoarthritis is largely inadequate.”
Gather-ed: Osteoarthritis & Pain will bring together 10 groups of 10 to 15 professionally connected clinicians who will complete the two-hour curriculum over a period lasting up to 12 weeks. Each group will be led by a mentor (Group Leader) with expertise in managing osteoarthritis and pain. Through the Gather-ed platform:
- Group members discuss, create & debate with support and mentorship from the group leader.
- Group members have a shared purpose of making sense of the information, achieving clarify, and creating realistic action plans.
- All members can view their group’s overall progress and scores, along with benchmarking opportunities.
