Accreditation Statements
PHYSICIANS: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine. The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 3 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.

The target audience to complete this program includes any allied health professionals whom will or have prescribed ER/LA opioid analgesics in the past 12 months.

Statement of Need
Through a review of the current literature; detailed conversations with expert educators; and a survey of clinicians past program participants; the following core gaps have been identified:

• Clinicians may not be properly assessing patients for treatment with ER/LA opioid analgesics
• Clinicians may not be properly initiating therapy, modifying doses, and discontinuing use of ER/LA opioid analgesics
• Clinicians may not employ best practices when managing ongoing therapy with ER/LA opioid analgesics
• Clinicians have indicated a lack of awareness of general and product-specific drug information about ER/LA opioid analgesics
• Clinicians may not be counseling patients and caregivers about the safe use of ER/LA opioid analgesics, including proper storage and disposal.
